Religious Education Program

St. Mary's has a long and proud tradition of providing high quality faith formation for people of all ages. We aim to continue that tradition by offering a variety of programs for parishioners at all stages of their faith lives. We are always looking for faith-filled Catholics who are eager to share their faith with others and serve as catechists in our programs.

Children's Religious Education

On Sundays from 10:20 am - 11:20 am, we have faith formation classes for children ages pre-K to 12. Registration takes place every year for three weeks beginning in August. Classes normally begin the Sunday after Labor Day in September and finish at the beginning of May.

Sacramental Preparation

Our Sacramental Preparation classes take place on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm from September until May. These classes are for those who are enrolled in our First Reconciliation/First Eucharist or Youth Confirmation program. The classes are for children of both English and Spanish speaking families, and are required in addition to attendance at the Sunday morning religious education classes. In compliance with diocesan policy, children must be enrolled in religious education for two years and receive their sacrament at the end of the second year. Parents must take seriously their baptismal obligation to see to the faith formation of their children and enroll them in religious education classes every year. Registration takes place every year beginning in August.

Youth Ministry

“Youth ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community. The Holy Father’s challenge for youth ministry rests on three essential goals: (1) Empowering young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; (2) Drawing young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community; and (3) Fostering the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.” (Renewing the Vision, 2).

Following these directives, the youth ministry program at St. Mary’s Cathedral strives to provide strong faith formation to help youth respond to the unique struggles they face in today's society and culture. The format includes the study of scripture, the writings of the Fathers of the Church, Great Saints, as well as church history and doctrines.

Our Youth normally meet on Friday evenings throughout the year. Contact Rebecca Longoria if you are interested in our Youth Ministry or for more information.

Adult Faith Formation: G.I.F.T. Growing in Faith Together

On Sundays from 10:20 am-11:20 am, the Adult Class meets in the classroom on the West side of the Cathedral Center. This year's class will include topics, a series on the Eucharist from Formed.org, and a Little Rock Bible Study in the Spring. The class schedule is posted on bulletin boards around the building and on the door to the classroom in the Cathedral Center (Parish Hall).
