Confirmation

Youth Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens the baptized and obliges them more firmly to be witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It imprints a character, enriches by the gifts of the Holy Spirit the baptized continuing on the path of Christian initiation, and binds them more perfectly to the Church. (Canon Law #879)

Confirmation candidates, sponsors, and parents are invited into a time of preparation through a series of Confirmation classes, assigned readings and questions, retreat experiences, and social service projects. The following is general information outlining the Confirmation preparation requirements:

The normal age for confirmation in the Diocese of Colorado Springs is 8th Grade.

Candidates for confirmation must have completed two years of religious education at Mary's, in a Catholic school, or another parish's religious formation program.

Registration takes place every year in August. Candidates must maintain attendance and participation in Confirmation Preparation sessions throughout the academic year (September through May).

Candidates, parents, and sponsors are expected to participate regularly in the weekly Sunday liturgy and in the faith formation of the youth during this process.

To register for classes, please contact Margie Tantanella.

Adult Confirmation (in English and Spanish)

Candidates must be beyond high school age and baptized Catholic. Classes are offered each spring during the six weeks between Easter and Pentecost. Adult Confirmation takes place every year on Pentecost Sunday. Candidates should register with the Cathedral Office one week prior to Ash Wednesday.
